Health on Board

The Holland America Line (and most other Cruise Lines I guess) take the on board health of its travellers very seriously. There are hand disinfectant dispensers all over the place. There is even a paper towel dispenser at toilet exits so those leaving can take a paper towel to use to grip the toilet door handle.

One morning as we entered the Lido Bistro area for breakfast there was a staff member there reminding people to use the hand disinfectant dispenser. There was a nasty chest cold bug about which laid people low for a day or so but when they emerged from their room feeling a little better still had a nasty and repetitive cough.

We even moved seats from a show we attended last night as the couple in front of us began coughing. These people cover their mouths when they cough but then use the banisters and touch other parts of the ship for other unsuspecting passengers to inadvertently pick up their bug germs on the way by.

So far we have managed to avoid picking the bug up but I reckon possibly up to 20% on board have had a touch of it.

We get the occasional cough ourselves but that seems to be caused by living in air conditioning while on board.
